Tiled the bump.

I found enough saved tiles to tile a bump out that had always annoyed me because of its lack of tiles! Figuring out how the previous tiler did the wood top caps might take me a while but I will get it. I am still saving my extra pennies to finish the engine install. I was hoping to have them in by now, but family members needed the cash more then me.

I have enjoyed living aboard and can’t wait till I am living aboard some place far away from boring little Nashville.

I have been laying trim and patching,staining and varnishing random walls, also some title work. But for the most part I have been taking it easy through the holidays.

Stained and varnished about 50 feet of trim. Should be able to knock all this trim work out in a few days. I also trimmed out the last two hatch doors. Next I guess will be installing all the round pull rings. We will see if I can destroy a nice pretty hatch with the router of doom!!!!!

I converted the forward steps into storage chests, Great place to store life vests, or tools. See more pictures in the Work in progress section. I also got the quote back on removing the engines, it seems reasonable so I will have the Marine do the work. I need to get the order in for the batteries at some point.

Two QuieTorque 360ibl electric drive systems from http://www.electricyacht.com where delivered via truck the 16th. They are heavier feeling then I was expecting, but I could left them myself. Getting them on deck was a bit of a challenge. I have a quote from the marine to remove the old engines. I hope they offer a good price, because I really don’t want to do the work myself!

Built and installed the last of the celling fixtures, and within five minutes of finishing the job I promptly broke one of the glass shields. In other news the two electric motors are about to ship so I need to get the monster fords out. I am not looking forward to that project.

New 50A converter

Running both AC’s in the Tennessee heat was a little to much for my 30A circuit. I bought a dual 30A to 50A converter. I might also have to replace my 50A cable in that it is warmer to the touch then I think it should be. I’ll try cleaning the connectors first. could just be some grim causing some extra resistance.

Poking around with a few little projects this week. Fixed some water damaged flooring in the aft head, and modified some trim light fixtures to get them ready to install. I have four ceiling fixtures left then a few wall sconces to finish. I am sure I will drag it out to take months. ;-)

I have two Electric Yacht Quietorque 360ibls on order. Now I have to get the two massive Ford big blocks out of the engine room with out making new holes in the boat.

Now that I have finished the last of the flooring work. Minus some trim and hardware work. I will have some lights and some other odds and ends, but for the most part the inside is done. I can no longer avoid the DUM DUM DUM big projects. Motor re-power or solar cells, is the question that has been causing me a tiny bit of anxiety. Either way I need to get going. The world is not going to come to me. Stay tuned for dilemma 101.

Took me a couple of hours to put down almost all the flooring in two rooms. and then two days to make all the angled cuts for the last 5 courses. Next up I need to knock out the last two hatches, and then I can check flooring off the todo list.....yeah man.

All the doors are done, minus another coat of varnish in a few days, But come to find out I don’t have enough knobs! So a trip to the hardware store is in my future.

I have all seven doors cut routed and stained. These are two of the four I got installed minus the knobs. The last three should be mounted tomorrow. I have also prepped the floor, in the forward berth for the install of the hardwood flooring.

I refinished a particularly dodge looks door frame, I have been avoiding this project because of all the dust it would cause. I will be cleaning mahogany dust off of stuff for weeks. I finished two more cabinet doors, and bought sixty dollars worth of hinges to hang all the cabinet doors with.

New oven all trimmed out.

It took me almost ten solid hours of work but the SuperSteam convection microwave is installed. Cutting the hole took a good 3 hours, and the stainless steal trim work took another three hours. It look fantastic and I have even cooked a few meals in it. The manual for this thing is so complex it comes with a cheat sheet. So far I have not needed either.

Completed two of the new cabinet doors as you can see the stain and router profile are a pretty good match for the original doors far right in this picture. After the varnish dries the colors should be exact matches. The routing was much easer then I thought it would be. I did destroy one piece of wood by not noticing which way the grain should go till after I had cut, routed, sanded, and stained it! Talk about not being situationally aware.

Finished the Oven hole, And started the construction of the replacement cabinet doors. The deck looks like a messy version of the New Yankee workshop. Tested the portable backup generator, it started easy and easily ran the fridge and battery charger.

Have most of the oak case built for the laundry nook. Also got busy doing some touch up work on the walls.

The Sharp steamer came in via UPS but broken all to hell, every plastic piece was broken and there where dents all over. So sent it back. Hope I some day see my $900 dollars or a new steamer. Who ships something expensive via UPS? They are the 800 pound gorilla of shipping!

I started to build the laundry nook. And @#$% mitered cuts on thick hardwood sucks. Finally found the perfect stain to match my mahogany, The stain name is fruit. It is not even an odd blend right off the shelf from Sherwin-Williams! That will help a ton with the floor trim which will be the next big project.

Versatility is important when you live in a 500 square foot boat. My current microwave is given up the ghost, so time to replace it. With a convection, steamer, microwave and oven. Of course I will pay a hefty $900 for that Versatility. But the reviews on Amazon are over the top so I expect good things, when it gets here. I found some solar cells I really like, just my luck they are not in production yet so will set me back a bit on the solar install. I’ll end tonights post with odd and ends, I finished and tested the aft shower, so now 100% of all the plumbing on the boat works, I replaced another of the ugly plastic light fixtures with a spiffy Aluminum and glass fixture.

Spice cabinet all done. Even fits quite a bit of stuff, not bad for a space that was just a useless empty hole to start with. I also rewired a bunch of light fixtures from GUI10 to MR11 because 12v GUI10 stuff was impossible to find.

Replaced a section of wood that had some water damage under the cabinets, Now to see if I can match the stain. I also trued up the edges on the door openings.

Well got around to a project I have been avoiding for a long time. I built and installed the box for the spice rack, after more sanding and then some staining, I can install the shelfs. I will also be refurbishing some of the wood work around the boat while I have the staining supplies out. I installed a surround sound bar on the entertainment system. Needed for the new Apple TV. I really like the Apple TV so far, Looks fantastic on the projector screen. The next project after the spice rack will be the garbage drawer, or the electrical for the shower.

I have mostly finished the head base, looks pretty good, just needs some trim work and some minor adjustments. The bath room looks much better, with out seeing all the head plumbing. I also finished up the aft shower plumbing, but still need to connect the electrical connections to the pump.

I got my projector all mounted, and the picture is great 76 inches of Netflix awesomeness. Colors are great. The sound system is a bit medieval, just a pair of computer speakers right now. I am going to wait till some of the Apple airplay compatible receivers come out before I worry about a sound system upgrade.

In my quest to have an awesome crapper, I have spent the last couple of day cutting and glueing together maple flooring scraps to create a decretive base to the aft head. I was finishing up the last strait cut on the band saw when the band saw blade broke. Let me tell you when those blades go they make one hell of a scare noise. Hope the blade are reasonably priced at Lowe’s.

The next step on this project is to cut a circular hole to fit snug around the crapper base. This will be the step most likely to screw the hole project up. We will see tomorrow.

Had to replace the capacitor on the aft Air conditioning unit. Now the back room is ohhh so chilled. Work on the spice cabinet is on going.

I think, I about have the electric motors picked out to replace the stinking gas beasts in the engine room. Yeah planet earth two less gas engines in use. I am down to just two companies. Should have it nailed down to one within the month. Hopefully I will get a decent amount when I sell the two ford 427’s, Money is much more a concern now that the house has flooded. I went from making 25 thousand on the sale and being debt free to making nothing and taking out a loan to repair the house. All really depressing. I was so close to the dream, I could feel the sunshine on my face. Ripped away in a night. I was feeling rather bummed after the disaster, then I found this blog where someone has already done what I want to do and it filled me with joy and got me all excited all over again: http://www.slowboatcruise.com/ So Back to work you scurvy dog! I setup a home theater system on the boat over the last few weeks, The HD projector rocks and I found a pretty good spot for the screen, even with some good ideals for making it disappear when not in use. No surround sound just a cheep pair of computer speakers. It works for now. Maybe to well, I have been chilling a little to much. Time to get back to regular updates to the boat and this blog. Project for next week is to build a spice cabinet, the hardest part of starting this project has been finding a stain that matches the rest of the boats red oak interior.
